Sign of the times

Stolen from Wirecutter's blog
This sign wouldn't have raised an eyebrow in the small town I grew up in. Of course, that was almost half a century ago.

Remember when your actions made a difference if it affected others? Remember when your word and a handshake meant more than a signature, and contracts were made by people, not lawyers?

Remember when a handup wasn't a handout, and if you needed help, the community helped. Remember when if you received needed help, you used it to live better and then helped others?

Remember getting caught with that one cent piece of candy, and the store owner called your parents, who spanked the crap out of you, and not the police?

Remember when spanking wasn't a criminal offense, and you didn't have your children taken for 'abuse' over a red butt?

Remember when teens were polite because of it?

I hope not. Because if you do, you know what our country USED to be like, and have a comparison to what it is now.

Now, how do we get it back?

I remember, and I damned near weep for what's been lost. As for getting it back, sadly I think we've gone past the point of no return.
