Obamacare Fumble Results In Cancellation Of Insurance For 7-year-old Cancer Patient

November 22, 2013 by
Thanks to Obamacare Ronald and Krista Alford of Texas, whose two children are battling rare forms of cancer, have lost insurance coverage for their child’s chemotherapy treatment.
Seven-year-old Hunter Alford’s mother told News 12 that her son is unlikely to be able to have his next round of chemotherapy treatment due to the insurance cancellation.

“Since his insurance was dropped, we’re thinking about cancelling his chemotherapy,” Krista Alford said.
Hunter, who is afflicted with Plexiform Hishocyne Neoplasm, had much of his expensive treatment paid for through children’s Medicaid— or CHIP. But due to changes made under Obamacare, the boy’s information was lost and his coverage was dropped .
With time running out, the boy’s mother has tried to hurriedly regain coverage for her son. She said she was basically informed that unless her child was an illegal alien or was about to give birth, the process cannot be expedited.
“The lady’s like, the only way we can expedite is if your son was pregnant and in labor, or if he was an illegal,” Krista said.
The boy’s treatment will reportedly cost $50,000 out of pocket without insurance coverage.
On a website set up to support the family, there was some good news on Friday noting that the hospital would allow the treatment to go ahead with the treatment without the insurance, but the family still faces an immense struggle.
I have some good news and some not so good. First due to the public support and the overwhelming outcry the Hospital is going forward with the treatment of Hunter. This means Hunter will receive his treatment and the bill will be forwarded to my brother. Also because they were able to be seen today we found out no radiation and that this will be Hunters’ final chemo round. This medical visit woul not be possible without you guys!  Unfortunately during this visit a spot was discovered on the back of his head and it is consistent with the Sarcoma that he has. Basically we will see what it is in approximately 2 weeks. If the cancer is spreading then we are gonna have to move forward with something else. Thank you for the prayers, donations and spreading the word about Hunter. God bless
