Name that 'shroom

Anyone have a definitive suggestion add to what the hell this is?

Preferably with resource documentation?

Don't plan on eating it (yet), but it looks tasty. Kinda like a confused morel.

  1. Gyromitra variety. Don't eat it.

  2. Looks like what we call a sheepshead mushroom. Did you find it at the base of an oak tree? I get some gigantic ones around mine. Supposed to be one of the tastiest.

  3. Gyromitra esculenta is edible, but get a positive ID. Some are not.

  5. Couldn't swear to it but, a young Spirasa crispa maybe? AKA Cauliflower Mushroom. They look like a platter of wide egg noodles and can grow as large as 50 lbs. Fruit body erupts from the ground. Timber harvesters don't like them as they cause rot in live trees. Good to eat if that's what it is. But I wouldn't swear to it.
