Thankfully just a nasty kidney infection. Gotta lay off the beer and drink lots of water.... Which is kinda nasty in itself. Fish fuck in that stuff!
Still, I can do without any additional aches. Between my shoulder and this, not much gonna git done around here. And I still have to dig out my sewer line, finish the last 15 feet of skirting and put the trim on, and put handrails on the front steps.
Oh well, life goes on. Deal with it!
One thing that might help prevent a recurrence is cranberry juice and/or cranberry pills.
ReplyDeleteI suffered through the same thing for decades. It was mostly caused by kidney stones as they passed. They would scratch the ureter as the made their way to the bladder and would cause infections. Finally ended up in the emergency room a couple years ago. Then a trip to the urologist. He said the same thing about drinking lots of water, but also that lemonade keeps stones from forming. I've been downing anywhere from a pint to a quart almost every day. Haven't had any problems since about six months after I started doing it. I make a gallon at a time using about 1/4 bottle of generic lemon juice, 2 cups of sugar and the rest water. You can also add a little lime juice for extra punch. Lime is supposed to be even better than lemon, but it's more expensive and I mostly only like lime in gin and tonic. Cranberry juice is good to prevent infections. Something in cranberries keeps bacteria from adhering to the urinary tract. Hope this helps....................
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tam and Heroditus!
DeleteCan't STAND cranberry juice, and the ONLY time I use lemon juice is in sweet tea. Now lime in a gin and tonic on the other hand...
Hmmmm... Maybe cranberry juice, lemon, and enough gin to kill the taste of both? Might be worth a stone or twenty...
Xenolith, I love cranberry juice; however, I know not everyone does. This is why God gave us the brains to invent cranberry pills--same benefit in two pills as in four servings of the juice, and you never taste it.
ReplyDeleteHeroditus, He may have given YOU brains. Me? Nah, he gave ME a wife. Seems to work better that way! And she browsed my blog yesterday, and after seeing your comment, picked some up on the way home.
DeleteNow, it may just be my imagination, which I readily admit is somewhat skewed, but I swear I taste cranberries 10 minutes later!
(She still makes me take 'em though. ..)
Okay, guy, after all the stuff that you have gone through I consider you to be one bad MFer. Now take your medicine like a man...................
ReplyDeleteMy mother in law used to get serious urinary track infections all the time when she was in a personal care home and she wouldn't drink cranberry juice either. The nurse told my wife about these cranberry concentrate capsules that you can take instead. Worked like a charm. She never got an infection after that. You can buy them in the drugstore or a lot of places like K-mart.
But how exactly would you add the gin to them? And wouldn't you have to take an awful lot for the gin to work?
