Americans are funny

No, really.
We take hardships and make jokes. We laugh at everything. We are a stoic, hardnosed, laugh in the face of adversity kinda folk.

I think this helps us remember overcoming the hardships of the past. To deal with loss. To show hope for the future.

We, as a culture, have made some of the most basic excuses and outright lies into jokes, because we as a culture can relate to hardships of our past, and laugh at falling for 'that old line'. Both individually and as a nation.

'The check is in the mail.'

'I promise I'll pull out.'

"If you like your current insurance, you can keep it."

These are all lines that we all KNOW are lies. But they have affected so many people, and continue to affect the lives of both ourselves and others we associate with, on both a personal and professional basis. And yet they are still used over and over.

It's actually kind of funny that we use these lines as jokes in the first place. But the fact that everyone can relate is what makes them universally, ludicrously humorous. I laugh everytime I hear 'em.
